Flag Day/Freedom Medal Honoree Announcements
The Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association (DCVMA) hosted its annual Flag Day ceremony and Freedom Medal honorees announcement on Tuesday, June 14, at 1:00 p.m.
The DCVMA Board of Directors announced seven Delaware County Veterans as Freedom Medal Honorees, recognized for their service and accomplishments in both the military and their local communities.
The 2022 Honorees include:
- General John Paxton Jr., US Marine Corps
- Brig. General Daniel Van Wyk, US Air Force/National Guard
- Joseph Curly, US Coast Guard
- Carl Ewing, US Army
- Denise Leslie, US Navy
- Benjamin Sides, US Marine Corps
- James L. Smith, US Marine Corps.
Additionally, Veteran owned, Greencastle Consulting, received the 2022 Dedication to Our Country and Community Award, and The Juneteenth Artistic Collaborative Experience of Delaware County (J.A.C.E.) was recognized with the 2022 Dedication to Education award.
“The honorees are a remarkable representation of the most honorable and accomplished veterans in our community, said DCVMA Board President, Joseph Daly, “We are proud to recognize their service to our country and the community at large.”
The program also included a performance of, “You’re a Grand Ole Flag” sung by the Kindergarten class of Garrett’s Way, as well as a donation presented by Jon Schaffer from Flight Entertainment for $55,555.55 from the proceeds raised over the winter months at the Delaware County Veteran’s Memorial Rink in Edgemont Township, PA. The DCVMA plans to use the donation to maintain and expand the memorial, as well as continue to educate future generations and honor those who have served our country.
